Makers

Links to homepages of instruments builders who make citterns or bouzoukis or octavemandolins
This list is not supposed to be complete. It will contain the luthiers subscribed to the Cittern list, as well as some I found while surfing the Internet that I couldn't find in other lists, such as Han Speeks makers list. I try to include everyone that gives information about the building methods.

Please help me keep this list up to date.
If you click on the button in the details section, I receive an automatic email from the server to notify me of a problem.

Bouzouki Chords http://www.angelfire.com/mi3/drumhilla/bouzouki_chords.html
Chords for Gdae tuning for bouzouki/Octave Mandolin. Only the ones you need to start, so very suitable for the beginner. Contains two soundfiles that show progressions with droning strings. Terry belonged to the Cittern List, I'm not sure if he made the transition to the eGroups. Gives a link to home-made bouzouki.

Dan Dubowsky Guitars and Bouzoukis http://www.dandubowski.com/
I have never had the opportunity to hold one in my hands, but boy, do they look pretty. Prices are in Australian dollars, which makes these instruments quite affordable.

Davy Stuart - mandolins, bouzoukis, mandolas, citterns, guitars, bodhrans. Hand-crafted in NZ http://www.stuart.co.nz/
Celtic musical instruments - mandolins, bouzoukis, mandolas, citterns, guitars, bodhrans. Hand-crafted by New Zealand luthier. Beatiful instruments. The good stuff: the dollars on the pricelist are *NZ dollars*, so these instruments are a bargain! Interesting: Davy actually played/plays in famous bands. New URL.

Harmonic Menagerie http://www.fiddletree.com/
When a luthier screws up an instrument he can saw it in half and throw on a pile, or use it to make works of art. Here's an example of such art. Nice site alltogether.

Philippe Berne Luthier http://perso.orange.fr/berneluthier/
Site of French luthier who makes citterns and bouzouki's, and much more. The site is in French, but you will find your way by clicking on pictures. I met Philippe three years ago on a festival, and played on a bouzouki, that I liked a lot. On his site there is a really cool twin necked guitar/bouzouki.

Thomas Buchanan. Handcrafted Folk Instruments http://www.geocities.com/tbmando/default.htm
Luthier from Scotland. All of the models shown on his site are with pin bridges. That would not have been my design choice, but all the people who own one of these instruments seem to be really enthousiastic. Among them is Phil Cunningham, of Silly Wizard fame. What definetely is to my taste is the no-nonsense design, that lets the natural beauty of the materials speak for itself. The site gives an illustrated tour through the workshop. Worth a visit.
